Meet Amanda Hill… Amanda is a true “woman’s woman!” While she radiates joy and humor, she makes everyone feel like a superstar.
1. What are you grateful for today?
Today I am grateful for my 2 healthy happy kids… and the fact they go back to school in 7 days! (but who’s counting…)
2. Tell us about one of your friends and what you love about her.
I’m lucky to have an amazing friend for the past 25 years who truly brings out the best in me. She makes me laugh, and think, and want to be a better person. I’m able to be completely honest around her. There is something so special and “one of a kind” about her that draws everyone in. She’s a breath of fresh air, and always eager to learn more about herself and others, and life around her. I admire and love her. And still after all these years would proudly wear my half of the “best friends” necklace!
3. Describe one of the best days of your life.
This question was tough for me! Do I go with “my wedding day” or the “birth of my kids” or something cool that shows I’m an international explorer like the time I climbed an active volcano in Sicily, or caught the sunrise in Bora Bora… but I think instead I’ll share a wonderful day I had last year at the Crazy Car X. This is not a promotion for the upcoming event… just a true story! Last year the weather was absolute perfection… 78 degrees… beautiful blue sky with white fluffy clouds. I had a team of women I loved, a ridiculous tight pink team t-shirt, and nerves of anticipation for what would be my first 5k. The race was so fun, and messy, and hilarious. The beers flowed nicely afterwards. My husband got his bass guitar chops back and played with a band. It was really fun to see him back on stage… so much of our early relationship was me going to his shows (ie. groupie!) and it was great to dance with friends and watch him in his element! The day raised $50,000 for local charities. Everyone was smiling and happy (did I mention the margarita tent?) and it was just a perfect day. Love moments like that where you feel part of something bigger then yourself!
4. What’s the best lesson you learned from your mother/grandmother?
My mother wasn’t one for slinging words of wisdom… she led by example. I tried to follow her good nature, kindness to others, and her generous spirit. One thing she did tell me in recent years: “Always surround yourself with people who will lift you up, not bring you down.”
5. We’re all unique. What is your special gift?
Does being able to eat 7 donuts in one sitting count as a special gift? Otherwise, I guess I’m good at making people feel comfortable around me. No pretenses, I cuss like a sailor, and hopefully give people a feeling of “well at least I’m doing better then this lady”.
6. What could women be doing to make their community a better place?
I think we have a great community of women here! Don’t be afraid to get involved in community events, go outside your comfort zone, and talk to someone who doesn’t look like you! Over the years I’ve found that everyone has a funny side, and a story to share if you just look for it.
7. What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
If I wasn’t so afraid I’d parachute out of an airplane. Or sing karaoke. Equally terrifying if you ask me…
