What are you grateful for today?
I am most grateful for my family, my health, my completely rewarding career, and my loving and supportive husband who has been there through it all.

Tell us about one of your friends and what you love about her.
My best friend is my ultimate inspiration. She is not only a pediatric gastroenterologist, she balances a healthy marriage, being a mom of three little ones and the director of a busy Inflammatory Bowel Disease program at a large academic children’s hospital.  What is so exemplary about  her is that no matter how busy she is, she always makes time for family and friends, and never forgets or misses their special events.  She always nails the work-life balance, dead on.

Describe one of the best days of your life.
One of the best days of my life will go down in the books as the day that I first became a mom.  I walked into the hospital as I have a million other times, only this time as a patient, and walked out changed forever.

What’s the best lesson you learned from your mother/grandmother?
My mother and grandmother were strong mentors of compassion, empathy and equality.  Their lessons were innumerable. I can not sum them up in one story.

We’re all unique. What is your special gift?
As a female physician, wife and mother, I believe that I have a unique ability to relate to my patients on a level that most physicians and surgeons cannot. This is one of the aspects I love most about my job, and I feel that it is a truly unique blessing to be able to establish these special bonds with my patients.

What could women be doing to make their community a better place?
I feel that the most important investment that woman can make in her community starts at home.  So many of us are part of the work force, pulled in multiple directions with advancements in technology and science, and with multiple caregivers to help balance things.  I think the best gift that we can give our community begins with a time investment in our children.  One of my favorite sayings that my children are too familiar with is, the best gift that you can give some one is your time, and I believe that starts with investing in our precious families first.

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
Well there isn’t much that scares me….from diving in a shark feeding frenzy to sky diving in the Alps, I try to embrace life to its fullest, since you never know what tomorrow brings.
