About the Project

That’s What She Said is a platform for everyday women to share their extraordinary stories.

It all began when three friends had a desire to make the world a better place for their daughters, for your daughters, for everyone’s daughters. While sitting on the patio, watching their girls playing in the yard, the She Said Project was born.

Within days, they were planning the first ever That’s What She Said show, to showcase women living boldly, truly, fearlessly. Word spread, connections were made, and there was an overwhelming outpouring of support.

A fun one-night show, turned into another. Then another. Then a weekend full of women-centric community events. Then a web series. We realized quickly that there was no shortage of incredible women with stories to share…be it a live performance, blog post, web interview, you name it. The She Said Project continues to ebb and flow, evolve and grow. After celebrating five years of powerful, sold-out live performances for the women of Champaign-Urbana, we decided to grow our mission of women supporting women through the power of storytelling to other communities across the globe. We have 2 shows planned for 2020 and plan to reach new communities each and every year. With each show, we can collectively raise women’s voices and continue to change the world.

Each That’s What She Said live show supports local non-profit organizations with a percentage of the ticket sales. Our She Said: Soul Journey team organized and sent dozens of women on multiple mission trips to Haiti to serve the children and staff at God’s Littlest Angels Orphanage.

In 2018, we joined forces with Be the Benchmark and created That’s What Teens Say, a 3-day empowerment program for teen girls. We guided local teen girls through a 3 day intense curriculum designed to build confidence, teach creative writing and public speaking, and encourage deeper human connection.

In 2019, we took our long-running shoe drive and relaunched it as The Shoe Said Project, a partnership with Share Your Soles…so that we can have a greater global impact on women and children…one pair of shoes at a time.

We launched The She Said Project Podcast, in partnership with Illinois Public Media and endorsed by NPR, to share the incredible treasure trove of women’s stories with even more women who want to laugh, cry, and nod enthusiastically with us.

We have lots of work to do…but our vision is so clear. Let’s build a stronger community and give a voice to stories that need to be told. Let’s continue to make the world a better place for everyone’s daughters.
