What are you grateful for today?
I’m grateful for the opportunity and resources that surround me and the desire that I have found to use that to bless and empower others in the most poor and desolate places.
Tell us about one of your friends and what you love about her.
My friend Dom is the most compassionate person I know. She sees people for who they are and never has negative things to say about anyone. Her heart breaks for those who are broken and finds joy when people around her are happy. She makes everyone who comes in contact with her feel valued through her open heart and conversation that is never about her.
Describe one of the best days of your life.
The best day of my life, that I did not realize at the time, was the day my parents brought my adopted sister home from Russia. She is my best friend.
What’s the best lesson you learned from your mother/grandmother?
The best lesson that I have learned from my mom and both of my grandmothers is to serve those around me. They have huge hearts to serve their family, friends, and even strangers well, sacrificing their time and energy, never once complaining. It takes selflessness and humility to put this into practice and that is something that they all seem to have mastered.
We’re all unique. What is your special gift?
I am extremely optimistic. I have a joy that is not easily taken from me. My family and friends joke that I never get mad or stressed out. There is a freedom I have, finding joy and positivity in every situation, big or small, and it is something I desire to share with everyone around me.
What could women be doing to make their community a better place?
Encouragement. Women should be constantly calling out the things they love in other women, especially character qualities. Most insecurity that we have as women comes from the physical qualities that are constantly being compared. If we start complimenting and encouraging character, it puts the focus on something a little more meaningful. Telling a stranger at the grocery store that you admire her patience with her kids is encouragement that would not soon be forgotten.
What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
I want to move to Northern India as a missionary, but I need to find a husband first. If I weren’t afraid, I would go by myself. That would be awesome.
