The She Said Project

The She Said Project empowers women and girls through storytelling, creating a platform for voices to be heard and stories to be shared. What started out with just our flagship event, “That’s What She Said” (TWSS), has expanded into many different platforms, cities, and stories, including That’s What Teens Say, The Power of Storytelling Conference, The She Said Project Podcast, and The She Said Press.

We are so incredibly grateful for all of your support and excited to continue to bring our mission to more communities. You can learn more about the different ways you can experience The She Said Project and bring new experiences to your community by reading below or by joining our newsletter to stay up to date on all the latest news. Join us in our mission to amplify women’s voices and create lasting impact through these incredible experiences.

That's What She Said

That’s What She Said is a bold and unique, one-night-only event celebrating the power of women’s voices through storytelling where we invite local women to share their personal stories. That’s What She Said is a chance for communities to celebrate the power of women’s voices on this unique platform where our speakers can be vulnerable, authentic, and courageous.

Our shows bring together a diverse cast of storytellers and reveals just how powerful the stories of everyday women from the community can be. Our events bring together the community, fostering connections, empathy, and understanding.

“That’s What She Said” has become a cherished annual event in more than 14 communities, and growing. Join us at one of our upcoming performances in a city near you.

That's What Teens Say

That’s What Teens Say is a transformative 3-day program designed to empower teen girls to find their story, own their story, share their story. Through confidence-building exercises, creative writing activities, and public speaking coaching, participants work towards developing their personal narratives. The program culminates in a final performance, where the girls present their stories live on stage before an audience.

Now available for organizations looking for quality teen programming, That’s What Teens Say offers a supportive space for teens to build confidence, enhance communication skills, and connect with peers in a judgment-free environment. Check out our Teens site to learn more about how you can bring this impactful experience to your community and help young girls make a positive impact on the world.

The Power of Storytelling Conference

The Power Of Storytelling Women’s Conference was born from the inspiration women find in the stories shared on the She Said stage and aims to connect women from across our communities.

Bringing together thought leaders and change-makers, the conference features engaging speakers and presenters who share how storytelling can be used as a force for good and create real impacts in our communities. Attendees will enjoy interactive sessions, delicious meals, new connections, networking opportunities, and more. Stay tuned for details on our 3rd annual conference to be held in Champaign, IL in October 2025.

She Said Press

The She Said Press was the logical next step to amplify the stories shared on stage beyond just that night. Through The She Said Press, we have published “That’s What She Said – From the Stage to the Page, Volume 1,” a celebration and collection of women’s stories, born from That’s What She Said shows.

As we commemorate the first ten years of That’s What She Said, this book captures the voices, stories, and lives that have been profoundly impacted. We aim to put these powerful narratives into the hands of more women, allowing them to benefit from the transformative power of storytelling.

Available in audiobook format, this collection features 16 captivating stories narrated by the original storytellers. You can find it on Amazon, Audible, Audiobooks.com, Spotify, and more. These stories of love, loss, tragedy, and triumph offer an intimate connection with each woman’s journey, from the stage to the page.

Even though I’ve gone to multiple shows, and every time I’m surprised and blown away by the experiences of all these amazing women. Each time I’m able to take something away from the show that stays with me.

I had the pleasure of attending my first show this spring in Champaign-Urbana. Thoughout the night, each of the personal stories lead us through a spectrum of emotions. It was inspiring that these women allowed themselves to be vulnerable, give voice to their lived experience, and give us all a glimpse inside their most private lives and moments. Thank you TWSS!

Just returned back to Indiana tonight- and filled with happiness and memories. The presentation was everything my dear friend Kevin McQuire said it would be! Many months ago in 2019- he started talking about this wonderful group he was working with- and he promoted the project with pride and respect! Well he was “spot on” - no disappointments here. Thank you - thank you for seeking out such a diverse group of women! An honor to be in the presence of queens! And it's so good to always hear about real women's life stories!

Our world is in such need of dearer connections. The stories of these women help to unite us in our human experience. ‘That’s what She Said’ is full of humor, anguish, joy and truth- it’s what makes a life worth living. Looking forward to the show in February 2020. Everyone needs to see this show live- it is a life affirming and focusing event.

First, this is not a show put on by actors--These are true life stories told by real, courageous, funny, smart women who make a difference in what they do and who they are everyday. As an audience member I laughed, cried, and supported every one of those women up there. It was amazing!

So much more than a "girl's night out"... That's What She Said has given me a voice by giving me the opportunity to listen. A beautiful testament to what it means to be human.

We all have a story and we need to hear others. It helps lift us up, give us courage, and remind us through life’s trials there is still room to soar. The ladies that head up this program get it, and couldn’t be more dedicated to helping other women soar. If you haven’t been to the show, get your spot for the next one!

If I could give TWSS more than 5 stars, I totally would. Women sharing powerful personal stories and empowering others through these stories...what more could one ask for? AWESOME!!!
