7 Q+A: Shara Keen

We continue our Q+A series with the funny ladies of C-U Comedy! Shara Keen performs every Monday at 8:30pm (including tonight!) with The Abe Froman Project, which is an improv group at Mike N Molly’s.

Shara’s first time doing stand-up was at the ladies night we went to a couple weeks ago. She was fantastic… We would have never known it was her first round without the emcee announcing it!

What are you grateful for today?
I am grateful for the people in my life that support me in all my endeavors. I have a great support system. I honestly don’t know what I would do with out them.

Tell us about one of your friends and what you love about her.
It is hard to pick one female friend, but my friend Maggi is incredible. She walks into a room and just shines. She is one of the most talented  people I know. She works hard for her talent, even though it comes naturally to her. I am in awe of her drive to succeed. Her most down to earth quality is that she doesn’t put other females down. I appreciate her friendship and who she is as a person.

Describe one of the best days of your life.
I could pick my wedding day or the day I got engaged but I would rather go with an ordinary day. My husband and I spent the whole day together. We didn’t do much other than running errands and playing video games together, but it was one of the best days because we talked and laughed the entire time. We were just us.

What’s the best lesson you learned from your mother/grandmother?
I learned from my mother to laugh. My mother and I laugh loud and proud. I think that is where I started my love for comedy. I wanted to make my mother laugh so hard that she would start to cry. I felt such joy watching her double over in laughter.

We’re all unique. What is your special gift?
I think I am good story teller. There is nothing better then being around a big group of people and telling them a story from my life. Making people laugh and receiving amusement from something I said is the best honor.

What could women be doing to make their community a better place?
I think, as women, we need to support each other and act more like a community.

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
I would try to make a career out of improv or stand up but I am to afraid of not having security.
