Sponsor 7 Q+A: The gals at Checkered Moon

Sharon Crow, owner of Checkered Moon, realized there were six gals she worked with that could help answer these seven questions. We love it! Thank you to Checkered Moon for the sponsor love since year one, we really are grateful. This year also includes the little pink couch give away, featured in both our promo videos this year!

What are you grateful for today?
I am grateful for today AND everyday for the “village” of women who surround me on my day-to-day quest to live, laugh, and share our wisdom as moms and friends. Stick that on a t-towel and smoke it!
—Kerry Springfield McGeary

Tell us about one of your friends and what you love about her.
If you see me around town, at work, at a social function or with my children—you will see Amy. She is never far behind… or me far behind her. It has been that way for the last 30 years. Amy is far beyond a friend, she is family—family to me and family to my children. Amy is wildly creative and has a sense of humor that would put most comedians in awe. Some of you may remember a presentation Amy did with a barbie. Legendary! Creativity and humor both have their place in Amy and her daily routine, but, I know another part of Amy… I know a woman who is tireless in her compassion for others… She’s giving, insightful, and understanding. And yes, can finish my sentence AND always have a glass of pinot waiting! We all need an Amy – I’m eternally grateful that I have one.
—Paula Charter

Describe one of the best days of your life.
Without a doubt, one of the best days of my life was when I gave birth to my first born and joined the world of “motherhood”. The rush of love and feelings of joy are still fresh in my mind. Motherhood is the worlds most demanding and rewarding job. It comes with both incredible highs and lows. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Being a mom has been my greatest happiness in life!
—Katie Parkhill

What’s the best lesson you learned from your mother/grandmother?
I can only imagine that from my mother’s eyes it was more than difficult witnessing me make decisions as a teenager and a young adult, but my mother was unwavering in her quiet presence in my life then and now. I made choices that steered my life one way that she may not have agreed with, but there was never a question that she didn’t love me and support me in whatever it is I decided to do. She had faith in my own journey and this is the greatest lesson she has taught me. To allow my children’s lives to move in the direction that they choose and have faith that it will all work out—this is the kind of mother I want to be… That I strive to be… Every day.
—Carissa Kemna

We’re all unique. What is your special gift?
Hmm… I’m not sure if it’s a gift or a curse, but I have this ability of wanting to do it all while also wanting to do nothing. It applies to a lot in my life—from wanting to eat clean—to wanting to try that salted caramel gelato in my freezer… Like right now! Or getting excited to design my new patio, but getting weighed down by what it takes to get it done. Or wanting to sit up in bed staring at reality TV feeds all night, while at the same time knowing that I need to shut my brain off. It’s finding the balance—yin-yang-sybil-kinda-thing—I guess! The reality of it is: It’s all okay—life is complicated and then again life is simple. Life isn’t exact, so do it all … OR … do absolutely nothing. It’s all good!
—Sharon Crow

What could women be doing to make their community a better place?
The biggest thing women can do to improve their community is to support the efforts of other women without competition or judgement. Women slightly outnumber men—imagine what we could accomplish with each other’s support. That… and raise compassionate, responsible human beings!
—Lori Barr

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
Ride a rollercoaster! I’d gather up my girlfriends for a road trip, head to universal studios and (willingly) strap in!! Without fear (and loss of consciousness), I would be able to experience the long (seemingly forever), slow pull up to the first drop (eyes open??). I’d feel the adrenaline pumping (non-stop screaming) intense falling sensation and sense of weightlessness… Survive… and then celebrate (glass of pinot) with my girlfriends!
